Nepal’s prognosis: short shrift to 12-pt accord spelt doom
Birgunj, December 26:
Former general secretary of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has said failing to implement the 12-point accord has pushed the nation to the brink of failure. Nepal emphasised on the need to build a new understanding among political parties to save the nation from slipping to back-burner.
Inaugurating the 35th national convention of the Nepal Jaycees attended by over 1,000 representatives from across the country here this afternoon, he said “The nation lagged behind from going ahead of the transition due to the dishonesty to implement the 12-point understanding reached among the political parties.”
Nepal, evaluating himself as the only capable person among others to lead the nation, said,
“The nation is in need of someone who can transform the words into action instead of tiring to utter big promises.”
“The risk of losing the people’s faith on the political parties is looming large again as the leadership could not fulfill the promise they made,” he added.
The murder of industrialist Rajesh Kyal of Birgunj and shootout at teacher Nirmala Thasineku of Bara were heinous crimes, he said, adding that the government had failed to punish the criminal activities.
Doubting over the collaboration between the criminals and security personnel, he said the
police needed to be alert about the information on the criminals and keep it secret.
Constituent Assembly member Gagan Thapa said that the convention would instill in the
youth new energy for building new Nepal. Kush Kumar Joshi, president, Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said that the potential of youths could not be utilised unless the peace was revived in the country.
