NC, CPN-MC reluctant to hold phase II polls: Rawal

Bajura, May 30

CPN-UML Vice-chairman Bhim Bahadur Rawal today alleged that the Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre did not want to hold the second phase of civic polls.

Addressing his party’s election rally in Martadi, Bajura, Rawal charged that NC and CPN-MC wanted to evade the polls as they were certain to lose. “The first phase of the civic poll was held under UML pressure on May 14. The two parties are scared due to the result of the first phase of polls. Thus, they do not want to hold the second phase,” Rawal alleged.

Rawal said his party would force the government to conduct the second phase of polls at any cost. “UML will work to safeguard democracy,” Rawal added.

Rawal warned NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal not to form a commission to split Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Kailali and Kanchanpur. He asked the people to vote for his party in all three sets of polls to defeat anti-national agendas, including that of constitution amendment, and splitting the Tarai from hills.

Rawal held that tearing of ballot papers at Bharatpur was the consequence of a defeated mentality and was an attack on democracy.
