NC parliamentary party meeting today
Kathmandu, July 3
The main opposition Nepali Congress is holding a meeting of its parliamentary party tomorrow.
As per the agenda finalised today by a meeting of top NC leaders at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, tomorrow’s meeting will dwell on the issues the party would raise in the federal Parliament as well as provincial assemblies, and making the party’s role as the main opposition more robust.
According to NC Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand, today’s meeting was attended by senior NC leader Ramchandra Paudel, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, Bimalendra Nidhi, Ram Sharam Mahat, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Prakash Man Shrestha, Gopal Man Shrestha, and Minendra Rijal, among others.
The meeting concluded that the government should roll back its decision on prohibited areas in Kathmandu, address demands of Dr Govinda KC and Ganga Maya Adhikari, and curb price hikes.
The meeting also concluded that the party would strongly raise the issue related to the constitutional provision whereby the Parliament speaker and deputy speaker should be from different parties. Presently both the speaker and deputy speaker are from the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).
“The government should also follow the system, not only the people. We will raise the issue from the Parliament as well as other forums,” said Khand. “So, tomorrow’s meeting will also dwell on the same issues.”
