Chand’s CPN captures mayor’s estate

Khotang, November 14

Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand has declared seizure of Tuwachung Municipality Mayor Iwan Rai’s estate in Khotang.

Rai learnt that his property had been captured after he noticed a flag of the party hoisted on his estate outside his Mangaltar-based house today. There was also a statement issued in the name of the unnamed party secretary pasted on the wall of his house. Rai’s Mangaltar-based estate is spread over 400 ropani land.

The statement has accused the mayor of aligning himself with the parliamentary system. “The so-called mayor is up for looting the country by winning the election with the help of goons and lucre, which is why we have seized his property,” the statement read, while the mayor linked the property grab to his refusal to oblige the party with donation.

“They had asked for donation many times and warned me not to participate in any election programme of the provincial and parliamentary elections,” said Rai, adding that the CPN men might have trespassed on his property and planted the flag at night.

Meanwhile, CPN has also announced seizure of the property of NC’s provincial candidate Subas Pokharel and Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Chandrasingh Basnet and his son Giriraj Basnet. It is stipulated that the seizures are motivated by the wish to affect the upcoming elections.

“I’m busy with the election programme and haven’t received any formal notice of the seizure,” Pokharel said.

Chief District Officer Ekdev Adhikari said search for the persons involved in the seizure of the properties is on. “We’ve heard about the seizure and are searching for the culprits,” he said, adding a police team had been deployed to track the culprits.
