New bird species found

Kathmandu, September 3 :

A new species of bird has been recorded at Koshi Tappu WildLife Reserve (KTWR). This brings the total number of birds in Nepal to 862.

A group of bird watchers spotted the bird, Red-breasted Flycatcher, (ficedula parva) for the a press release by Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN), issued here today, said.

The release said the bird was spotted in a riverside forest along the eastern embankment of KTWR not far from the main dyke. Another bird review body, Nepal Rare Birds Committee (NRBC), has also endorsed the recording. .

This flycatcher breeds mainly in Europe and North Asia.
