New law on cards to make universities submit annual report to government

Kathmandu, November 20

The government is set to bring a new rule requiring universities to submit their annual reports to the federal or provincial governments.

Draft of the school and educational institute operation bill prepared by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology proposes making it mandatory for universities under the federal government to submit their reports to the House of Representatives through the federal minister of education.

Similarly, universities under provincial governments should submit their reports to the concerned committees through chief ministers.

All the universities till date are under the federal government. There are nine universities in the country. Two universities ( Nepalgunj University and Rajarshi Janak University) have yet to come into operation.

The annual report should include total expenses of the university, donations it received, number of students and scholarship details, among other things.

The universities should also provide their progress report and mention their future plans.
