‘New sanitation law soon’

Dhangadi, February 16

Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Prem Bahadur Singh today said that the government was preparing to draft a new law related to sanitation to establish the country as an open defecation free state at the earliest.

Speaking at a symposium organised by Regional Monitoring and Supervision Office Dipayal in Dhangadi, Kailali, Minister Singh admitted that law-drafting was in the final stage. “We have to make separate plans for the local, district and regional levels for the same,” said Singh.

“The toilets built in many rural areas have become useless due to water crunch and drinking water projects have become messed up. Hence, we should work together to reverse the situation,” said Singh.

The symposium concluded with a 11-point Dhangadi declaration today.

The declaration incorporates law related to sanitation, strategies, sustainable plans, integrated plans and waste management, among others.
