New species of maize suggested

RATNANAGAR, CHITWAN: The National Maize Research Programme in Chitwan has developed a new species of maize this year which is resilient to high temperature.

Senior scientist of Programme Chitra Bahadur Kunwar shared that National Seeds Recommendation Sub-Committee has certified the new species of maize after the recommendation.

The programme developed the hybrid maize 'Rampur Hybrid-8' following a four-year long research.

The maize would be recommended to the farmers after publishing a notice in the Nepal Gazatte.

Kunwar further said that the maize is appropriate for the high temperature as it was resilient to high temperature and could yield better.

The Programme is carrying out the researches about maize in Rampur of Chitwan, Parwanipur of Bara, Tarahari of Sunsari and some other areas.

Chief of the Programme Dr Keshav Babu Koirala, said that experiment on other species is also underway.
