Newly-elected official resigns

Jhapa: Gopal Giri, who was said to have been elected unopposed for the post of the chairman of the Ward No 11 of Damak municipality, today said he has resigned from the post due to personal reasons. Issuing a press statement today, Giri said: “I am unable to work as the ward chairman due to my personal reasons. So I have resigned from my post.”

The candidates for different posts of the municipality, who were under tight security following their nominations on January 26, had taken the oath of office and secrecy after they were announced elected unopposed on Sunday. The newly elected mayor and the deputy mayor were staying in the municipality office while the elected ward chairmen and members were out of contact on Monday. Similarly, mayor and deputy mayor of Bhadrapur Municipality are being taken to secure places in the night. In Mechinagar municipality too, the candidates have been kept under security control since January 26. The candidates have not been allowed

to talk to journalists.

A report from Charikot said Hari Bahadur Bhujel, who was elected unopposed as a ward member of Bhimeshwor municipality, resigned from his post on Sunday night. He blamed the administration for not allowing him to withdraw his candidacy.
