NHRC meet to check rights abuse

The National Human Rights Commission regional office Nepalgunj organised an interaction programme to check the rights abuse cases in the far western hilly region, yesterday.
Discussion on right abuses by the warring parties was held in the interaction participated in by the human rights activists, journalists, representatives of the government and non-government organisations and district judges. The speakers also discussed human rights violation due to cultural and traditional causes. Speakers were of the view that traditional practices like Haliya, Doli, Dhan Khane Chalan and others were violation of human rights.
Speakers said that the far western region was more prone to rights violations because the NHRC does not have a regional office there. Doti district court judge Bhim Bahadur Bohara said that the victims of the human rights violation could move court as it is impartial. Director of the National Human Rights Commission regional office Nepalgunj, Ram Kumar Thapa, said the warring parties should restore peace through dialogue as the human rights cannot exist without peace.
Meanwhile, a team of the rights activists visited the Doti prison and acquired information about prisoners.
