‘No deviation from deal reached with Dr KC’

Kathmandu, December 17

The sub-panel of the Education and Health committee today asked the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to draft the National Health Education Bill, including the provision of the nine-point agreement between the government and Dr Govinda KC.

The sub-panel meeting had already decided to present the bill’s proposal in the first winter session meeting of the House of Representatives.

The Bhairab Bahadur Singh-led committee called a meeting on December 24 to discuss the final draft bill which will be prepared by the ministry. The sub-panel gave its suggestion to the ministry.

The suggestions were included after long discussion with many health organisations and health experts, among other stakeholders.

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel agreed on the same content which the government had agreed with Dr Govinda KC.

Member of the sub-committee Gagan Thapa said that if the government stays on the same agreement which they have reached with Dr. KC, the committee will pass the bill’s proposal in the two upcoming meetings.

The law ministry will send the bill to the sub-panel after drafting it with advice from the sub-panel.

After finalising the bill’s content, the sub-panel will send it in the full panel. The full panel will pass the bill’s proposal and present it in the House of Representatives.
