National Information Commission Commissioner Kiran Kumar Pokharel today said good governance would remain a far cry without implementation of right to information.

Speaking at an orientation on right to information organised by National Information Commission in Diktel, Khotang,  today, Pokharel noted that implementation of the right to information would play a significant role in making public bodies transparent, responsible, and accountable.

“The constitution has guaranteed the right to seek information related to the services and proceedings of public bodies, and this is the only way transparency, accountability and good governance can be ensured,” said Pokharel, adding that providing information and seeking information should be developed as a culture.

Pokharel also urged people’s representatives to educate people even in the villages about the statutory right to information.
