No grant for Panchthar schools with nil SLC result

PHIDIM, July 16

District Education Office Panchthar has halted its grant to some schools of the district after the institutions secured nil result in the School Leaving Certificate examinations.

The budget, which was distributed as per the number of students, has been halted after the DEO did not get satisfactory answer why the schools had achieved nil result. The office has sought explanation from schools after the SLC results were made public.

Panchthar District Education Officer Gyan Mani Nepal, said the office has halted its subsidy as teachers were responsible for such results. “We find teachers responsible for the bad results,” he added. He said the Per Child Fund (PCF) had been halted for seven schools that attained nil result though some schools had shown improvement in results compared to the previous years.

The seven schools of the district could not pass even a single student. Such schools in the northern part of the district are: Saraswati Higher Secondary School of Mamang, Siddha Mahendra High School of Aangna, Triveni High School in Mauwa, Singhasiddhi High School in Yangnam, Khandrong High School of Sarangdanda, Singhasiddha High School of Lungrupa and Singha Devi High School of Sidin .

According to DEO, the office had been providing a budget Rs 6,300 to high schools while Rs 1,550 was given for foundation levels which did not have teachers’ quota for that level. It is said that the pass percentage has more than doubled, but the number of schools with zero result has also increased in the district.

The overall pass percentage in the district has increased to 29 from 13 in one year.
