No place for PLA fighters in army: Sushil

BHOJPUR: Acting president of the Nepali Congress Shushil Koirala today said that the Maoist combatants cannot be integrated in the Nepali Army.

Inaugurating the BP Koirala Memorial Third Running Shield Open Volleyball Tournament organised by Nepal Tarun Dal-Bhojpur, Koirala said that the combatants could be integrated in other security agencies. Koirala said the Maoists were talking about civilian supremacy, but were yet to shun violence, extortion and capturing private properties.

Urging the Maoists not to jeopardise the achievements and the changes that the nation has made, Koirala said that the peace process would conclude with cooperation from all the parties concerned.

He also warned the Maoists against thinking of coming to power by threatening and intimidating people.

Speaking at the programme chaired by Janak Ghale, chairman, Nepal Tarun Dal, Bhojpur, NC central member Manmohan Bhattarai said that the new constitution cannot be drafted until the Maoist combatants remained in cantonments. Bhattarai also urged the Maoists not to request anyone for bringing about a change in the government.

Another central member of the party Ananda Dhungana said that the Maoists were bypassing the constitution drafting process by putting forward the issue of civil supremacy.
