No textbooks as exams near
Even though the new academic session started more than a month ago, Sajha Publications, the sole distributor of the text books published by Janak Education Materials Centre, is yet to provide textbooks required by the school children of Udayapur district. So students, who are deprived of their textbooks, do not feel encouraged to continue their courses.
The textbooks of grade 6, which have been restructured for this ongoing academic session, are not even available in the district.
Paras Bishwakarma, a student of grade 6 at Triyuga Secondary School, says, “Now I have no enthusiasm to study, since I have no textbooks. After a few weeks, the first terminal examination is going to take place, but I have no books to study, so how can I pass the examination.”
Meanwhile, an authorised dealer of Sajha Publications situated at Katari market said that not only local students, but also those of Khotang and Okhaldhunga districts who collect books from Katari in previous years, are also disturbed by the lack of textbooks.
The textbooks of other classes have arrived, but those for grade 6 are yet to reach here, he said.
Santosh Neupane, proprietor of ‘Neupane books’ stall situated at Gaighat, says that the number of persons asking for the textbooks of grade 6 is increasing everyday. “Looking at the crowd of people making the same demands, we requested Sajha Publications to deliver the books, but I was told that the books should be circulated by Janak Educational Materials Centre Ltd, but they are yet to reach here,” said Neupane.
