Numbers of cancer, cardiac and kidney patients increasing in Jhapa

As many as 587 people have been diagnosed with cancer, and heart and kidney related ailments in Jhapa in the current fiscal, according to Jhapa District Public Health Office.

Of the total 238 cancer patients, 126 are females and 112 are males. In the last fiscal, as many as 237 people were diagnosed with cancer in Jhapa. Likewise, 131 people were diagnosed with heart diseases as of June 23 of the current fiscal year.

Of them, 60 are females and 71 are males. Last year, the number of cardiac patients stood at 122.

Cancer and cardiac patients have increased in Jhapa of late. As many as 69 people are suffering from kidney diseases, according to the data at Jhapa District Public Health Office. Of them, 20 are females and 49 males.

In-charge at the DPHO, Chandra Dev Mehata, said the number of kidney patients stood at 66 last year.

People between 5-74 years of age come to the DPHO for recommendations after the government announced to provide support of up to Rs 100,000 for the treatment of these non-communicable diseases, said Mehata.

He also shared that the number of patients suffering from cancer, and cardiac and kidney ailments had increased as compared to the last fiscal.
