Road in danger

Okhaldhunga, July 17

The road section that connects Okhaldhunga and Udayapur districts near the Sunkoshi River is at high risk of landslide.

The road section is in peril due to lack of proper drainage system and mismanaged water pipelines.

The section from Sunkoshi River’s entry point to Ghurmi Bazaar is said to be at high risk.

Jeep driver Dhan Singh Tamang said it was getting increasingly difficult to ply vehicles on the road section due to fear of unexpected landslides. He said construction of the bridge over the Sunkoshi River was completed two years ago after 13 years of effort. “But the muddy road on the bridge has always been our bane,” he added.

Hundreds of vehicles ply towards Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu and Khotang through Sunkoshi Bridge. The concerned authority has failed to pay attention to the poor road condition. Meanwhile, Road Division Office Chief Dip Barai said the road would be managed after it is merged with the mid-hilly lokmarga.
