Oli's nay to population-based constituency demarcation
JHAPA: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that allocating the electoral constituencies on the basis of population is inappropriate.
Allocation of constituencies on the basis of population is one of the major demands of agitating Tarai-centric parties.
He added that the premise itself was wrong as the constituencies could not be determined only on the basis of population and the geography of Nepal does not assure it.
Addressing the party cadres' meeting organised by the CPN-UML Mechi Zonal Committee here today, PM Oli added that the Tarai issues could be addressed through talks and the government was working for the same.
He further said that ongoing identity-based protests and movements were trying to disintegrate national unity.
On the occasion, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Agni Prasad Kharel said that Madhes-centric parties were creating crisis in the country by protesting over border points.
Demands forged by Madhes-centric parties could be addressed if they came for dialogue after lifting the border blockade, Kharel added.
