DDC locked out

BARA: Students affiliated to the Nepali Congress-Democratic padlocked four office rooms of the Bara district development committee on Thursday blaming the DDC officials of inolvement in corruption on a large scale. Earlier, the students had chanted slogans against local development officer Bhupa Nath Sharma. They had locked the office rooms of the LDO, the planning officer Mohan Prasad Adhikary, accountant and planning section, which was later opened at 3:00 pm. — HNS

Two trucks seized

BARA: The central regional revenue investigation unit office Pathlaiya on Thursday seized two trucks of chemical fertilizers imported illegally from India. The mobile team of the revenue investigation unit office seized those chemical fertilizers at 3 am in Narayangarh, said an officer, Ram Prasad Regmi. The two trucks carrying the fertilizers were also seized. Five hundred forty one sacks of chemical fertilizers were seized from those two trucks, Regmi said. — HNS

NPU flays list

DHANGADHI: The Nepal Press Union, Kailali branch, has flayed the list of suppressors of the Jana Andolan, published by the political parties here and said it is biased and lacks proper investigation. A statement issued by the chairman of the union and representative of Radio Nepal in Dhanagadhi, TN Joshi, said a vile attempt has been made to assassinate the character of the individuals by falsely naming them as suppressors of the Jana Andolan. Such an act will hurt an individual’s faith in democracy and demoralise him, he said. — RSS

Simian menace

DAMAULI: Packs of monkeys have annoyed farmers of Bar Bhanjyang and Ghansikuwa VDC in the northern side of Tanhun. Hundreds of farmers in Ratmate, Bhumetar of ward no 9, in Bar Bhanjyang VDC, Pakhagaun, Samdanda of ward no 6, Golla, Daba, Jyamere ward no 5, Tallo Kamlabari of Ward no 3 of Ghansikuwa VDC are having a hard time. A teacher at a local school, Chandrakanta Panth complained that monkeys have destroyed fruits and the standing maize crops. Farmers here are worried that they may have to face food shortage because the monkeys have destroyed crops. — RSS

Road blocked

LAHAN: The road has been totally blocked when a tractor collided with a truck at Chakhawa bridge of Kalyanpur-3 of Saptari district along the Mahendra Highway on Tuesday. The road was blocked after a truck (Na 1 Kha 1640), heading west from Jhapa district, hit a tractor coming from the opposite direction, the District Police Office, Saptari said. The attempt to bring a crane from Itahari for opening the road is underway, Police Inspector Bahadur Jung Malla said. More than 400 vehicles and thousands of passengers on both sides have been stranded. Attempt to use alternative way through the river has not been successful. No casualties have been reported yet, but the drivers are at large. — RSS

Property looted

DAMAULI: A group of armed dacoits looted two houses of Khamdanda of Barbhanjyang VDC-9 of Tanahu district on Tuesday night. The group of five dacoits looted cash, jewelry, and valuables from the house of Kamansingh Dura and Man Bahadur Dura around 10:00 pm, the victimized family source informed. Earlier, such armed looters had looted various houses in the district in various times. — RSS
