Indian MPs’ visit

NEW DELHI: A five-member delegation of Indian parliamentarians is set to embark on a three-day visit to Kathmandu on Tuesday. The team will learn about the recent political development in Nepal. Rajya Sabha member from the ruling Congress party, Nirmala Desh Pandey, is leading the delegation. The delegation is scheduled to meet leaders of political parties, civil society and journalists , Desh Pandey’s office informed. — HNS

Govt to buy fertilizers

NEW DELHI: The Nepali government, a few days ago, wrote a letter to India to provide 25-30 thousand metric tonnes of different types of chemical fertiliser to Nepal. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the request of the Ministry of Agriculture made a formal request to the Indian government through the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to provide chemical fertilizerss, Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, said. It is stated that the decision of the Royal government to purchase a large quantity of fertilizer from India without issuing any tender notice had drawn criticism. — HNS

Oli meets B’desh FM

KATHMANDU: Deputy PM and Minister for Foreign Affairs KP Sharma Oli met Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Morshed Khan in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. During the meeting, Oli informed Khan about the recent historic transformation in Nepal following a peaceful people’s movement. Oli also informed the Bangladeshi minister about the historic proclamation passed by the House. — RSS

PM’s adviser

KATHMANDU: Ramesh Jung Thapa of Biratnagar Sub Metropolitan City-9, Morang, has been appointed as the adviser to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. Thapa would be advising the PM on administration and security issues. This is stated by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Monday. — RSS

‘Looters identified’

KATHMANDU: Police on Monday claimed of identifying the armed group of five persons that looted property Rs 1.09 million from Chhetrapati branch of the Nepal Bank Limited on Sunday. “We have identified them and will nab them within some days,” Deepak Ranjit, Superintendent of Police at the Valley Crime Investigation Branch (VCIB), Hanumandhoka said. — HNS

Vehicles seized

Lamjung: No vehicles left here for Kathmandu or Narayangadh on Monday after the Maoists seized all public vehicles to ferry people to Pokhara to attend the mass meet of the Maoists on Monday. The local residents, who were scheduled to go to the capital and other cities other than Pokhara, were stranded at Besisahar. One transport entrepreneur said the Maoists have assured entrepreneurs to provide expenses for fuel. — HNS

Clarification

Kathmandu: Telecom Employees Association of Nepal (TEAN) President TL Shrestha on Monday denied that Nepal Telecom Managing Committee member Sunil Pokharel and Manager of New Services Directorate Pramod Gurung were in any way involved in conspiring against the mass uprising through April 6-24. A THT report on Sunday had named both of them as among those who had conspired with elements who were trying to stifle the movement. The news report “NT staff want anti-stir officials out” was based on the claims of a source in the Nepal Telecom. —HNS

Campion awarded

KATHMANDU: Campion International School has been awarded the International Centre status by the University of Cambride International Examinations (CIE). The school will now offer a range of internationally accepted qualifications, including cambridge’s IGCSE and GCSE and A level, the CIE said in a press release. According to the release, the CIE is the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 14-19 year old students. — HNS

Rash driving kills one

BARA: An Indian national, Satbur Rahman (29), died when the motorcycle he was riding on rammed into a truck parked in front of the Ashok Steel Industries in Jeetpur on Monday, police said. Pillion-rider Jamil Akhtar (35), of Hetaunda-10, who was injured in the accident, is undergoing treatment at the Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital. — HNS
