Students’ protest

SIRAHA: Student organisations affiliated to the seven party alliance on Monday staged a demonstration in Siraha bazaar to protest against the dispute between the parliamentary parties on the issue of proclamation to make the House of Representatives all powerful. The rally went through the thoroughfares of Siraha bazaar and warned the political parties not to falter anymore in making the people sovereign. — HNS

NHRC’s inspection

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission team headed by its chairman Nain Bahadur Khatri visited former ministers held in various detention centres on Monday. The team enquired about their conditions and found it satisfactory. “We found that they are being kept in normal conditions and have access to the print media,” said Khatri. The team visited Kamal Thapa, Ramesh Nath Pandey, Shrish Shumsher Rana and Nichhe Shumsher Rana. — HNS

11 hurt in mishap

DAMAULI: At least 11 passengers were injured when a Mahindra Jeep (Ga 1 Cha 2603) en route to Dumre Bazaar from Bandipur of Tanahun district plunged 80 metres down the road near Bandipur VDC-1 on Monday morning. Those injured have been identified as Bhakta Bahadur Supi, Dhakur Prasad Poudel, Til Maya Bhujel, Prem Bahadur Gurung, Khim Bahadur Rokka, Yam Bahadur Bhujel, Bhul Bahadur Supi, Suka Bahadur Thapa, Khadak Bahadur Thapa

and Imbahadur Kunwar, said Parasuram Adhikari, managing director

of Lakpi Hospital in Dumre. The seriously injured passengers have been taken to Kathmandu for treatment while others with minor injuries are undergoing treatment at the local hospital. — RSS

Aid for landslide-hit

BAGLUNG: The District Administration Office, Baglung, and Nepal Red Cross Society here have distributed relief to victims of landslides that occurred on May 6 at Adhikarichaur. DAO provided expenses for last rites to the families of the six killed in the landslide and Rs 4,000 to the injured for housing and medicare. — RSS

Smuggler held

DHANGADHI: Indian border police arrested Karan Singh, 20, and seized 1.37 kg of brown sugar from him as he was trying to smuggle it to India. The contraband was being taken to India through the jungle near Kailali Customs Office. — RSS

KATHMANDU: The King has, on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, annulled the Labour (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2062 BS, in accordance with Article 72 (2) of the Constitution. — RSS

Senior monk dead

KATHMANDU: Senior-most Sanghnayak Bhikchhu Subodhananda Mahasthabir passed away at the age of 91 on Monday afternoon. Bhikchhu Subodhananda was among the eight Buddhist monks banished from the country by then Rana Regime in 2001 BS. Bhikchhu Subodhananda was recently honoured by the government of Myanmar with the title Agga Maha Suddhamma Jotik Dhaj. — RSS
