Release sought

Kathmandu: The National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday urged the Maoists to immediately release Bam Bahadur Yongya and Ran Bahadur Khadka, the chairman and the vice-chairman of the Panchthar District Development Committee. The duo was abducted by Maoists on May 4 and their whereabouts are not known. The NHRC called on the Maoists to release them. — HNS

Four Maoists freed

BARA: Four Maoists were released on Tuesday following the orders of Appellate Court of Hetauda, District Police Office, Bara said. Among those released are Pramod Sinkhada (25) of Simara-2, Ram Chandra Lama (34), Hari Chaudhari (26) and Shyam Babu Gupta (20) of Simara-4. They were released from the DPO. — HNS

19 Maoists freed

CHITWAN: Nineteen Maoist detainees, including Raju Amagain, member of the Maoists’ district secretariat, and Pitambar Pokharel, district chairman of the Maoist-affiliated Peasants’ party, were released from the Bharatpur prison on Tuesday following an order from the District Administration Office (DAO). On Monday, the DAO had ordered the jail administration to release three Maoist detainees. — HNS

Injured girl dies

DAMAULI: Mamata Ranabhat (8), of Jamune village development committee-3, Gunani, who was injured when a bus hit her in Gunani on the Prithvi highway on Monday, died while undergoing treatment. Police have arrested Udaya Chandra KC, the bus driver. — RSS
