3 killed in mishap
Kavre: Three persons, including two children, were killed and nine injured when a tractor met with an accident in Dhulikhel on Sunday .The tractor with 12 passengers on board skilled off the road and fell 150 meters below. Nawaraj Sinjali (13) and Aiti Tamang (34) died on the spot, while Milan Rana Magar (13) died in Dhulikhel hospital. Nine passengers, including the driver, were injured. — HNS
Timber seized
JANAKPURDHAM: A joint team of the Charnath Forest Conservation Committee and the Dhanusha District Forest Office, acting on a tip-off, confiscated timber worth thousands of rupees that was being smuggled. — RSS
Dacoits arrested
SUNSARI: Locals of Khanar nabbed two dacoits and handed them over to the police on Thursday. The locals also handed over a pistol seized from the dacoits. A gang of seven dacoits had looted Rs 10,000 from a hotel owner Nanda Kishore Shah at Ward No 4 of Khanar. — RSS
Forest gutted
TEHARATHUM: Pine and bamboo trees in the Chulidanda community forest area in Basantpur VDC of Teharthum district were gutted in a fire that broke out on Saturday. According to the chairman of the Chulidanda Community Forest Users’ Group, Basu Dev Thapa, pine and bamboo trees on five hectares of land as well as cardamom on 40 ropanies of land were completely destroyed. — RSS
Safe abortion
SUNSARI: The number of people undergoing safe abortion has increased in the district after abortion was legalised in the country, said Mahesh Mohan Palikhe, general secretary of the Nepal Family Planning Association, while addressing the 28th FPAN general meeting that ended on Saturday. Presenting a progress report, Palikhe said the FPAN branch had conducted 1,554 safe abortions.— RSS
