One found dead

POKHARA: A youngster was found hanging from a tree behind the Sirjana Chowk (Pokhara)-based Multi Model Higher Secondary School on Friday. Locals had informed the police after seeing the body. The deceased, 24-year-old David Poudel of Hetauda, had been working in Samikchya Furniture Industry of Pokhara, police said. — HNS

2 NSU men expelled

LAHAN: The Nepal Students’ Union (Siraha) has expelled Ram Babu Yadav and Suresh Mahato, members of the Siraha-based Surya Narayan Satya Narayan Marbaita Yadav Multiple Campus chapter of the NSU, for two years for filing independent candidacies for the FSU polls against candidates representing the democratic students’ unions, chairman of the NSU (Siraha), Paramnanda Pravakar, said in a press statement on Friday. — HNS

Envoy opens hostel

KATHMANDU: Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee

inaugurated the girls’ hostel building of the Phidim-based Panchthar Multiple Campus in the presence of government officials and community leaders from Panchthar on Friday, the Indian Embassy said in a press release. The building was built with assistance of Rs 9.9 million from the Indian government. – HNS

Maoists attack leader

NEPALGUNJ: The Maoists on Thursday attacked the Banke district member of People’s Front Nepal, Deepraj Burma, the party said, adding an armed group of Maoists attacked Burma immediately after the end of a gathering organised by the party at Batahani, Banke. He sustained injuries on his back, mouth and eyes. Burma has been undergoing treatment in Bheri Zonal Hospital. — HNS

House locked

LEKHNATH: Maoists have locked the house of Hem Bahadur Sapkota, the ward chairman of ward no 9 of the Lekhnath Municipality at Ralmare on Friday, neighbours said. The Maoists have also warned him to resign from the post within 15 days. He has been living in a guest house after filing his nominations for the elections. His family has moved to a neighbour’s house, after the incident. — HNS

31st Education Day

MAHOTTTARI:A rally participated in by teachers, students, political workers, office chiefs and businessmen went through the town and later turned into a meeting at the Laxmi Chandi Murarka School. The rally was organised by the District Education Office to mark the 31st Education Day. Detainees released

Nuwakot: All 25 detainees, who were held on February 1 for protesting the royal takeover, were freed by Friday. NC (D) Nuwakot chairman, Dhruba Adhikari, and district member of the CPN (UML), Narayan Prasad Khatiwada, were among the four detainees freed on Friday. —HNS
