Ex-secy kills self

KATHMANDU: Gopal Dahal Chhetri (60), who had recently retired from the post of under secretary at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction two weeks ago, committed suicide at his house in Gaurighat on Thursday. Police said Chhetri had shot himself in the head with a licensed pistol. He had died while he was being rushed to the TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj. Chettri had been suffering from alcoholism, the police said. — HNS

‘No arms deal’

Kathmandu: Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari today clarified that she had not signed any arms deal with India during her visit. Talking to mediapersons upon her arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, she said her visit had been fruitful. She urged media not to focus only on arms since military support included logistics too. Stating that India had agreed to resume military aid, the minister said the neighbour was ready to support Nepal with all sorts of military equipment if need be. — HNS

One killed

GAIGHAT: A teenager was killed when he was hit by a stumbling rock in Udayapur district on Wednesday. Mohan Magar (15), a resident of Ranibas, was critically injured when a rock fell over him in Ranibas-Rauta road while he was tending his cattle, the police said, adding that Magar succumbed to his injuries on the way while being rushed to a nearby health facility. -- HNS
