2 Maoist cadres surrender
GAIGHAT: Two Maoist cadres surrendered to the district administration office (DAO), Udayapur, on Wednesday and Thursday. Kunta Magar, a cadre from Baraha VDC-6, surrendered to the DAO on Thursday, the DAO said, adding that another cadre, Chakra Bahadur Thapa, had surrendered to the DAO on Wednesday. — HNS
Leopard cub found
BAGLUNG: A leopard cub was found in a cowshed in Amlachaur VDC-7 of Baglung district on Wednesday. Chitra Prasad Sapkota, who found the cub, handed it over to the District Police Office, Baglung. The cub, which had sustained injuries, has been kept at the District Forest Office (DFO), Kedarnath Dahal, a DFO official said, adding that it was recuperating.— HNS
Two kids killed in accident
Birgunj: Two children, hit by a microbus at Simara in Bara district on Thursday afternoon, died while undergoing treatment in Birgunj. Pratishar Adhikari (10), daughter of Khemnath Adhikari of Simara VDC-2 and Sushmita Chamariya (11), daughter of Raju Chamariya were returning home from school when they were hit by a microbus bearing registration number Ba 1 Ja 7380 near Baba Oil pump, said the Parsa district police office. They were taken to Birgunj Hospital but died shortly after. — HNS
Trafficker gets 15-yr term
POKHARA: The District Court, Kaski, has awarded a 15-year jail term and slapped a fine of Rs 32,000 on Indra Bahadur Bishwakarma for selling his wife to a brothel in Pahadgunj in India. Bishwakarma sold her for INRs 20,000 on September 10, 2004. — HNS
Security for exam centres
Pokhara: At least 10 security-men have been deployed at each SLC examination centre based in Kaski district, said Badri Subedi, technical assistant at the district education office (DEO). The DEO has announced that preparations for holding the SLC examination are complete. Question papers and other required materials have been sent to all the 19 examination centres, Subedi said. The DEO has also assigned one officer for each centre, in order to make invigilation more effective. At least 6590 regular students, and 648 exempted earlier, are going to appear for SLC examination which begins from 27th March said Subedi. — HNS

Loan for conflict-hit
TAPLEJUNG: Forty-six conflict-hit people, who have been displaced from the district of Taplejung, will be given loans so as to enable them to start different enterprises, Bhim Poudel, the local the development officer of Taplejung district development committee, said. Five people from Fakumba VDC, four from Ikhabu VDC, three each from Sanwa, Lingtep, Sikaiya, Tapethok and Khamlung VDCs, are among those who will be given the loan. — HNS
Blood shortage in Rajbiraj
RAJBIRAJ: A shortage of blood in Rajbiraj blood transfusion centre has been reported after no-one turned up for blood donation in the centre for the last one month, according to Siddhartha Sharma, laboratory chief of the centre. The supply of blood, specially group O and B, has failed to meet the demand, he said. The shortage has been felt after the centre’s regular and reserve blood donors moved out of Rajbiraj. The shortage has affected patients in Sagarmatha zonal hospital, a health assistant in the emergency ward of the hospital, said. — HNS
