Grand old dame dead:

DHANKUTA: The eldest person of the district, Chandra Devi Shrestha of Kopche, Dhankuta municipality-5, died at the age of 107 on Sunday. Of her ten children, six sons and two daughters are still surviving. Her second son is 85 years old. Chandra Devi leaves behind 23 grandsons and 19 granddaughters, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was bed-ridden for the last six months. — HNS

2 held for embezzlement:

PHIDIM: Nepal Telecom Company (NTC) peon Nabin Thapa Magar and Rastriya Banijya Bank employee Arjun Bhandari was arrested on Sunday for allegedly embezzling Rs 214,500. They had done so by forging the signature of bank treasurer Ram Bilas Chaudhary. — HNS

Maoist killed:

NARAYANGADH: A Maoist cadre was killed in Chitwan on Sunday when a pressure cooker bomb he was carrying on his cycle exploded. A district-based security source said Rajan Bhandari of Pida village development committee-4, Dhading, was injured in the blast at Kamalnagar of Bharatpur municipality-4, adding Bhandari succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Bharatpur hospital. — HNS

Woman killed in blast:

NEPALGUNJ: Mangali Nepali, 30, was killed when a pressure cooker bomb went off at Kholachaur of Mahat VDC-7, Jumla, on Sunday. Security sources said the Maoists could have placed the bomb there. — HNS

One killed in bus mishap:

DHANGADHI: Pushpa Adhikari of Igaun of Phoolbari VDC was killed and ten others were hurt in bus mishap in Kailali district on Saturday night. — HNS

Maoists kill ex-comrade:

RAMECHHAP: A group of Maoists gunned down Bikram Lama, a former Maoist of Doramba VDC-4, on Saturday night. According to the victim’s family, the Maoists broke into the house through the window and shot Lama at around 8 pm. Lama was living a normal life after surrendering himself before the administration sometimes ago. — HNS

Toddler killed in blast:

Gaighat: One toddler was killed and two girls injured when a Maoist bomb went off in Yamuwa village development committee of Khotang on Saturday. Two-and-half-year-old Bishnu Darji, son of Kashi Darji of Bamarang VDC-7, Chumla, was killed on the spot, and Geeta Karki, 10, and Chitrakala Karki, 14, were injured. The bomb went off in a goat-shed during a rice-feeding ceremony. — HNS
