Bhutan angers refugees

Damak: Bhutanese refugees living in Nepal have expressed anger at a Bhutanese government’s reported plan to issue new citizenship certificates in two areas in the eastern part of Bhutan. They said the plan is a ploy to obliterate their nationality. President of the Bhutan People’s Party, Balram Poudel, said the Bhutan government has planned to issue new citizenship certificates in Samkhar and Tasigung areas with the intention to uproot their nationality. “The government’s move is guided by the intention not to give recognition to the old citizenship certificates, which the Bhutanese refugees hold, by issuing new certificates in their places.” — HNS

Envoy opens consulate

Birgunj: Indian ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shanker Mukharjee, inaugurated the Indian Consulate Office here on Monday. Indian officials informed about the official inauguration of the consulate office which had been operational since last year. The inauguration had been postponed several times due to internal reasons. Speaking on the occasion, ambassador Mukharjee said the consulate would facilitate the official work of Indian community residing in the Terai belt. Consulate general, C Gururaj Rao, informed that the office was working towards expansion of bilateral relations in the cultural, educational and economic sectors. — HNS

15 injured in mishap

RAJBIRAJ: Some fifteen passengers were injured when a bus (Ko 1 Kha 1745) and a truck (Na 2 Kha 140) collided head-on along the Mahendra Highway at Sitapur, Saptari, on Sunday. According to Kanchanpur Ilaka Police Office, bus driver Prem Shrestha, 26, of Dhankuta Jeetpur-4 and conductor Dilliram Shrestha of Dharan-15 sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the BP Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences. A dozen other injured are undergoing treatment. — RSS

Man kills brother

RAJBIRAJ: A man was killed on Saturday in Chakala tole-3 of Mahadeva VDC, Saptari, by his own younger brother when the two clashed over a minor issue. Ganesh Rajak, 40, a resident of Mahadeva VDC-3 was killed by his brother Umesh Rajak in a dispute which started when elder brother’s onion plantation was destroyed by an ox belonging to the yonger brother. He died at the BP Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences while undergoing treatment, the Ilaka Police office, Hanumannagar said. Search for the younger brother is on. — RSS
