Villagers protest

BIRGUNJ: A group of locals of Hariharpur VDC demonstrated in front of the District Police Office on Monday to protest the thrashing of locals by police personnel. They also obstructed vehicular movement for two-and-a-half hours in Hariharpur. A police team had thrashed the locals while they were heading to the district headquarters to put pressure on the local administration to withdraw the case of kidnapping against Ram Bahadur Kurmi. Kurmi was arrested by the police on Friday for kidnapping Bhuwan Shah Teli. — HNS

Smugglers arrested

DAMAK: Seven persons were arrested for smuggling timber in Damak on Monday. They were held along with 247 cubic feet of timber that was being illegally smuggled from Chulachuli of Ilam, the Pathibhara Battalion of Armed Police Force said, adding that the smugglers along with the timber had been handed over to the Jhapa District Forest Office. — HNS

Highway obstructed

RAUTAHAT: Locals of Gaidatar in Chandranigahpur VDC of Rautahat obstructed vehicular movement on the East-West Highway for five hours from 8 am on Monday, demanding electricity supply to their locality. The locals said they had no electricity in Ward No 3 and 4 of the VDC. According to SP Ghananda Bhatt, the traffic resumed after chief of Gaur branch of the NEA agreed to supply electricity to the locals within two months. — HNS

3 killed in mishaps

BUTWAL: Two persons were killed when a mini-truck collided with a stationary tipper at Dhabaha in Motipur-4 of Kapilvastu on Monday morning. Meanwhile, motorcyclist Santosh Thapa of Parroha-4 of Rupandehi was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car at Butwal-14 on Sunday night. — RSS
