Two killed in mishap

DHANGADHI: Two persons were killed when a Tikapur-bound bus met with an accident at Lamki-Tikapur section on Monday evening. The deceased have been identified as Dipu Bahadur Rawal, 58, of Tikapur-9 and Kamaiya of Devi Chaudhari of Bijayanagar Kamaiya camp. “Rawal died on the spot while Chaudhari succumbed to injuries later,” police said. Ten others injured in the accident have been receiving treatment. —HNS

Man hacked to death

BARA: Bishwonath Shah, 50, a resident of Dahiyar-1, died on the spot when an unidentified gang attacked him with a sharp weapon on Tuesday. Shah was sleeping in his residence, while the gang carried out the assault, police said. — HNS

Police office vandalised

Biratnagar: Locals, protesting the involvement of police in a road traffic accident, vandalised the Letang Area Police Office on Tuesday. “Some police personnel sustained injuries while windowpanes of the office were smashed when locals pelted stones,” police said. Earlier a police patrol van had hit the trio Amit Tamang, Dil Maya Tamang and Sushma Tamang who were travelling in a bike. The injured are being treated at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. Hundreds of locals had gheraoed the police office before the attack. Some police personnel also sustained injuries in the clash. — HNS

Houses gutted

PHIDIM: Two houses belonging to Raj Kumar Rai and Ram Bahadur Rai were gutted in fire in Yangnam VDC in Panchthar on Monday night. “Property worth Rs 500,000 was damaged in the fire,” locals said. Goods including foodstuffs, clothes and important documents were damaged in the fire, District Police Office said. — HNS

Tusker kills senior citizen

RAUTAHAT: Chhintang Pakhrin, 95, a resident of Chandranigahpur-1, was killed when a tusker attacked him while he was asleep on Monday. A herd of wild elephants damaged paddy plantation in Bishrampur VDC on Saturday. — HNS
