SC writ on incentive

Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued show cause notices to the government demanding explanation for its recent move to provide Rs 50,000 to single women who re-marry. A single bench of Justice Khil Raj Regmi issued the order following the hearing. The bench has given a 15-day ultimatum to the PM's office, the Cabinet and the Ministry of Finance to furnish an explanation as to why such a policy was adopted. Challenging the decision, a group of women rights activists led by Lily Thapa, filed the petition in the Supreme Court on Monday. — HNS

Teenager buried

Chautara: Mangale Tamang (15), a resident of Mahankal VDC- 5, western Sindhupalchowk, was buried to death by a mudslide on Monday. The teenager died on the spot. He was heading home after watching a volleyball match organised at Golphu Bhanjyang, Area Police Office, Melamchi, said. — RSS
