Maoist leader robbed

KATHMANDU: An unidentified gang broke into the rented house of vice-chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha 'Prakash', at Dhobighat, on Monday morning. They have made away with Rs 60,000 in cash and a Sony digital camera, SP Kedar Man Singh Bhandari, in-charge of Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, said. The police have launched massive manhunt to after the incident. — HNS

New HISTAN body

KATHMANDU: The third national convention of Higher Secondary Teachers' Association Nepal (HISTAN) held on October 9-10 elected a 61-member central executive committee under the chairmanship of Deepak Raj Subedi. A statement issued by HISTAN on Monday said Bikram Pokharel is the new senior vice president while Thirnath Dahal, Kedar Bhandari, Sadananda Gautam, Kamalnath Chapagain, Ram Prasad Dhakal and Damodar Pandit are the vice-presidents. Puspa Neupane is the general secretary while Yogendra Basnet, Rajendra Khanal, Yagya Prasad Gaira, Taranath Pokharal the secretaries and Rishi Ram Kandel is the treasurer. — HNS

Govt asked to plan

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources instructed the government to prepare long term plan that would address the pleas of Koshi dam victims on Sunday .The committee has expressed concern over the displaced who await rehabilitation. “The plan should also consider those in problem after the 1954 Koshi agreement with India,"said Shanta Chaudhary, committee chairman. — HNS

One killed 11 injured

PARASI: One person was killed and 11 others injured in separate accidents in Nawalparasi on Monday. Sukani Chaudhary, hailing from Siseniya of Dang district, was killed and three others injured when an ambulance hit them at Jyamire, police said. The injured are undergoing treatment at Lumbini Zonal Hospital, Butwal. Meanwhile, eight persons were injured when a jeep heading for Sunwal from Parasi hit them at Swathi. “The injured are undergoing treatment at Parasi based Prithvi Chandra Hospital,” police said. — HNS
