Girl killed in mishap
MAHENDRANAGAR: A teenage girl, who was returning with an entrance card for her SLC examination, died when a tractor hit her on Tuesday. Basanti Sarki (17), a student of Baidhyanath Higher Secondary School, breathed her last while being rushed to India for treatment, the police said. Sarki’s body has been kept at Mahakali zonal hospital. Meanwhile, Dipak Khatri, who had accompanied Sarki to India, has been absconding, the police said. — HNS
Sugar mill shut
SARLAHI: Sarlahi’s Hariwan-based Indu Shankar Sugar Mill has shut down from Monday night because of the shortage of sugarcane. Bijayakanta Jha, general manager of the mill, said the mill was shut after the sugarcane produced in Sarlahi, Mahottari and Rautahat districts were used up. Jha said the mill crushed 2,264,000 quintals of sugarcane since December 5. It had crushed 3,200,000 quintals in the last season. The farmers in the area have no sugarcane left now, Jha said, citing a survey carried out by the mill. However, local farmers claimed that the mill had not used up sugarcane produced in the southern parts of the district. — HNS
Bomb defused
SARLAHI: The police on Tuesday diffused a socket bomb planted in front of a clothing shop in Sarlahi. SP Sharad Oli said the bomb kept in front of the shutter of Dulhan Sadi Showroom in the main market of Malangwa 9 was diffused. Meanwhile, two persons were injured when a bomb went off on the premises of the head office of The Sahara Loan Savings Cooperatives Society Limited in Malangwa at 8:00 pm on Monday. The injured are undergoing treatment in Tri-Chandra Hospital, Malangwa. Sarlahi district coordinator of Tarai Janatantrik Mukti Morcha (Prithvi Group) Bikas took the responsibility for the blast. — HNS
