Theft cases on rise

GHAIGHAT: With Dashain approaching, incidents of theft and pilfering are on the rise in Triyuga Municipality of Udayapur. Dozens of theft cases of motorcycle, cattle and other valuables were reported in many parts of the municipality in the past one week but the police are yet to catch any culprit. Last night, two motorcycles were stolen from Deuri Bazaar which lies close to Area Police Office Jaljale. The locals have accused police of inefficacy in containing such crimes. Up to 50 persons gheraoed the Jaljale police post on Tuesday demanding that the incidents be checked. — HNS

Kin protest death

JHAPA: Kin of Govinda Karki (35), a resident of Bhadrapur Municipality-3, who died while in police detention on Wednesday, demonstrated in Chandragadhi. The relatives of the deceased blamed police beating for the death. Police, however, said he died due to consumption of alcohol. The police had held him on Monday for allegedly injuring his niece. In deteriorating health, Karki was taken to Mechi Zonal Hospital and handed over to his wife there on Wednesday morning. He died while being rushed to Dharan for treatment.— HNS
