Cops not to be spared
Nepalgunj: Home Minister Bhim Rawal on Friday said stern action would be taken against policemen found to be involved in corruption. Stating that the special security strategy would be implemented at any rate, Rawal said the security strategy was not directed at any caste, creed and religion. The strategy is implemented to maintain the rule of law, to protect human rights and to end impunity, he said. He said the government was committed to integrate and rehabilitate the PLA fighters. — HNS
Flood victims protest
Tikapur: Kailali flood victims on Friday staged a demonstration in Tikapur demanding proper settlement. The victims also organised a sit-in protest in front of the Area Administration Office and Tikapur Municipality. The victims also sought to declare the areas as flood-hit and to shift them to safe places, among others. The victims also seized the land near Birendra Bidhya Mandir College in Tikapur in order to settle themselves there until the government manages their rehabilitation. “We are compelled to take shelter here as our request fell on the deaf ear,’’ said

Subedi casts doubt
Biratnagar: Deputy-chairperson of Constituent Assembly Purna Kumari Subedi on Friday said that the new constitution could not be drafted within the stipulated time. She claimed that the constitution drafting process slowed down due to the lack of consensus among the political parties. Speaking at the annual general meeting of Biratnagar chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Subedi urged the people to watch the constitution drafting process. Claiming that the journalists had been neglected by the state, she said the state should provide pays and perks to the journalists at par with other professionals. She added that the government should bring a policy to end insecurity in the sector of journalism. Press freedom should be ensured. — HNS
