ITAHARI: Property worth Rs 600,000 was gutted when fire caught a house in Mahendranagar of Sunsari district on Thursday night. The house of Patal Bahadur Rai of Mahendranagar- 3 was burnt to ashes, said Area Police Office, Mahendranagar. The fire was taken under control with the help of locals and the police. — RSS

Drive against bird flu

PARASI: Nawalparasi district is all set to conduct Humanitarian Pandemic Preparedness (H2P) initiative against avian flu threat in the district. H2P was conducted against bird flu as the district has many watershed areas where birds come from Siberia during the winter, raising the risk of bird flu. Nepal Red Cross Society, Nawalparasi chapter, said people were being aware of the risks of bird flu and the ways to fight against it. — RSS

Cop killed in mishap

Bara: A police personnel was killed while two others were injured in a road mishap in which an army jeep from Kalijan Company of Parsa hit a motorbike rode by the policemen on Wednesday. The army vehicle was heading to Birgunj from Pathlayia when it hit the motorcycle heading towards the same direction. Budhan Ram, 23, who was critically injured in the accident, died at Police Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. Pillion-rider police constables Bijaya Shah and Rakesh Pandey are undergoing treatment in the same hospital. — HNS
