Domestic helps freed
LAMAHI: Three children, Gita KC (14), Bimala KC (15) and Srijana KC (8), who were working as domestic workers, have been freed by Srijanshil Youth Club Lamahi and rehabilitated in Dhawajuri Hostel. Daughters of Dal Bahadur KC, a resident of Dang Sarsa, were freed and admitted to the hostel for their education, club president Sanam Poudel said. Gita said they were forced to work as domestic workers when they faced hardships in eking out a living after their father’s death in an accident. — HNS
Two killed in accident
Nawalparasi: Two persons of about 25, including a driver and his helper, were killed when a sand-loaded tractor returning from Narayani River met an accident at Bhattekhola of Narayani VDC-9 on Thursday afternoon. Driver Laxman Mahato and his helper Dipak Sunuwar, residents of Kawasoti VDC-7, died in the accident, according to the police. Dulari Mahato, 22, of the same VDC and another helper of the tractor were injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment at Kaligandaki Hospital in Kawasoti. — HNS
Three buried to death
DHANGADHI: Three persons were killed and 5 others sustained serious injuries when a mound of mud came crashing down on them in Ratomata, Sappata VDC of Bajura on Thursday morning. Police said the incident took place while they had gone to dig up soil near their houses. According to Zonal Police Office Kailali, nineteen-year-old Isha BK, Rakhi BK, 15, and Hansa BK, 15, of Sappata Village Development Committee-9 died at the spot. —HNS

DHANKUTA: Demanding an autonomous Khambuwan state, Dhankuta chapter of Khambuwan Rastriya Morcha demonstrated in Hillebazaar on Thursday. The first demonstration of the Khambuwan in the eastern hilly town was attended by leaders and cadres coming from as far as Dharan. MAHOTTARI: Another armed outfit—Tarai League Communist Morcha— has come into existence in the Tarai at a time when the government is busy in talks with other such groups. Commander Binashak has led the 25-member central executive committee formed to check murders, violence and looting incidents in the Tarai, according to a statement issued by its president Binashak on Thursday. Samikshya Bidrohi is nominated as the district in-charge of Mahottari and Sakal Bidrohi, the in-charge of Dhanusha. — HNS

BHAIRAHAWA: An elderly person died after being hit by a motorbike in Rupandehi’s Dhamauli on Wednesday evening. Critically hurt Shambhu Naun, 70, succumbed to injuries on the way to Universal Medical College, Bhairahawa, police said. — HNS
Stone crushes man
SANKHUWASABHA: Chandra Bahadur Rai of Diding village development committee died when a falling stone crushed him in Khandbari municipality - 12 on Wednesday evening. 40-year-old Rai was hurt while taking stones out of a quarry for building purposes and died on his way to District Hospital Khandbari, Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Prasad Upadhyaya said. — HNS
Maoists’ reign of terror
BIRATNAGAR: Mukhiya Karna Bahadur Singh and Dipendra Singh of Dainiya Village Development Committee of Morang were seriously injured after they were severely beaten-up by the CPN-Maoist cadres on Thursday. The Maoist cadres had thrashed them while they were watching the ‘Jhurkiya Charity Show.’ According to victim Mukhiya Singh, a group of 10-15 persons led by Manoj Sharma fled after beating them mercilessly at the program. The two are undergoing treatment at the health post of Dainiyan. — HNS
