DHANKUTA: Media persons of Dhankuta district has protested the recent attacks on the press freedom by donning black ribbons on duty on Wednesday. The phase wise protest programme

has been launched in the initiation of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists to denounce the Maoists’ attacks on media. As part of their phase-wise programme, the journalists of the district started working with black ribbons on their arms, said Bijaya Santoshi Rai, president of the FNJ Dhankuta. — HNS

Three killed, 14 hurt

KAVRE: Three persons were killed and 14 injured when a mini truck bound for Sano Bangthali

VDC of Kavre district from Kathmandu for loading timber skidded off 100 meters down the road Wednesday afternoon. The deceased are Netra Bahadur Khadka and Kamal Bahadur Khadka of Sano Bangthali-3 and a truck helper. Two of the injured returned home after treatment and rest are getting treatment in Dhulikhel Community Hospital. The cause of the accident was yet to be known, Kavre police said. — HNS

Teachers’ stir

NEPALGUNJ: The Higher Secondary Teacher’s Association (HSTA) Banke chapter, padlocked the Nepalgunj based Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) on Wednesday. They said they were forced to do so for the government had ignored their 8-point demands. All the official activities of the HSEB office was obstructed due to the padlock. Meanwhile, HSTA central member Jhakku Prasad Dangi and district president Sunil Singhal issued a release and urged to close all private and community higher secondary schools on December 28

Exams postponed

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University, Institute of Engineering, Examination Control Division on Wednesday postponed all Bachelors level examinations of all programs until the publication of next exam schedule. Issuing a notice, the Examination Control Division said all examinations of the Diploma Level would take place as per the schedule. The Division said it faced serious obstructions in conducting the examinations as Pulchowk Campus had been closed indefinitely due to the insecure environment and hostile situation in the Campus. — RSS

KATHMANDU: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Qiu Guohong, on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Vice President Paramananda Jha at his office in Bahadur Bhavan. He held discussion on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. — RSS

Murder condemned

KATHMANDU: Nepal National Marwadi Council (NNMC) has condemned the murder of Rajesh Kayal, businessman of Birgunj and expressed deep condolence towards the bereaved family members. Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, the NNMC requested the government, police and concerned authorities to investigate into the incident and punish the culprit murder.

Anti-graft body’s order

Kathmandu: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Wednesday directed the Department of Irrigation (DoI) to cancel the tender awarded to the Banganga Irrigation Water Consumer Project, Kapilvastu. Stating that the tender awarded for ten years was improper, the CIAA had directed the DoI to end the contract. The CIAA found irregularities in the process of awarding tender and directed the DoI to cancel the project. —HNS
