DDC office padlocked

Mahottari: The Tarai Madhes Democratic Party padlocked the Mahottari DDC office for an indefinite period on Friday, alleging widespread corruption in the office. A team led by TMDP’s Mahottari president Abhiram Sharma alleged that the DDC launched more than 20 projects against what the political parties had agreed to launch. He accused LDO Hari Lochan Sharma of issuing cheques from Kathmandu and not attending the office since July. — HNS

Firecrackers seized

NARAYANGARH: Police seized four sacks of firecrackers from Bharatpur and Narayangarh bazaar areas in Chitwan this week. “As the firecrackers are banned, we seized them from different places,” the Chitwan District Police Office said. — HNS

Rare mushroom

KHALANGA: The rare morchella mushroom, which is usually found in high mountainous areas,

has been found in Salyan as well, far below an altitude of its usual habitat. The mushroom was found in a Tikuli Gaira Leadehold Forest in Dandagaun. Morchella mushroom (Morchella conica), locally known as guchche chyau is considered to have aphrodisiac properties. The mushroom fetches around Rs 12,000 to 15,000 in the market. Officials said they were surprised by the finding of the rare mushroom at an altitude of only 3,500 metres, as it is usually found in an altitude of 5,000 metres above sea level. — RSS

Man robbed

LAHAN: A gang of looters looted Rs 175,600 from Rangeet Kumar Thapa of Lahan-1 in the broad daylight on Thursday. According to police, Thapa was robbed when he came out of the Rastriya Banijya Bank after withdrawing the money. — RSS
