Crime control plan

RAJBIRAJ: Keeping in view the rise in criminal activities in the district, Saptari District Police Office is planning to introduce a special security policy in the district. “It has been found that the use of motorbikes is increasing in criminal activities in the district. We will deploy a special team to keep an eye on motorcyclists and pillion riders,” Superintenden of Police Bhupal Kumar Bhandari told a press conference organised here on Sunday. He also said that

One shot dead

BHAIRAHAWA: An unidentified armed gang shot dead Kodai Gharti (40) of Semrahawa in Dhakdhai-7, Rupandehi district, on Saturday night. The armed gang took Gharti from his house and shot him dead at a place some 700 metres far from his house, Rupandehi District Police Office said. Police reached the incident site immediately after the incident, SP Rabi Raj Shrestha said, adding that a patrol team of Dhakdhai Area Police Office exchanged fire with the members of the gang. The gang, however, managed to flee. Police seized a motorbike with Indian number plate. Meanwhile, police held a person in connection to the incident. — HNS

Educationist dead

SYANGJA: Buddhi Prasad Pokhrael, an educationist of Syangja district, passed away on Friday. He was 70. Pokhrael, who was suffering from cancer, died in the Kathmandu-based Om Hospital while undergoing treatment, according to the family. Involved in the education sector in the district for the past four decades, Pokharel is survived by wife, two sons and four daughters. — HNS
