Flood in Jhapa

DAMAK: Flood in Kamal and Baniyani rivers in Jhapa district has rendered 30 families of Mahabhara VDC homeless. Thirty households at Balubadi and Kunjibari were displaced on Saturday after floodwaters gushed into their houses all of sudden, former VDC chairman Bijay Kumar Agrawal said. “The displaced are sheltering in their neighbours’ houses,” Agrawal said, adding that the displaced are from marginalised Koche and Santhal communities. — HNS

Abductee set free

PHIDIM: A former head constable was released from the clutches of abductors on Saturday. A gang of 12 armed persons had abducted Jas Bahadur Chemjong from his house in Phaktep VDC-4. A group of 12 armed persons had abducted Chemjong from his house on Saturday, locals said. Villagers came to the rescue of Chemjong after his family members informed about the incident. — HNS

Vehicle seized

Dhading: Locals have seized a vehicle of Thopalkhola Hydro-power Company based in Salang village development committee-6 in Dhading district. The vehicle was seized from Benighat VDC-1, Malekhu. They said a a pick-up van owned by the hydro-power company was seized as the company did not pay them even a year after the commissioning of the hydropower project. — HNS
