Jeep crushes child

PATHLAIYA: A jeep ran over nine-year-old Sanimaya Lama, daughter of Sovit Lama, in Dudhaura bridge along the Pathlaiya-Nijgadh road in Bara on Saturday. The jeep was heading to Pathlaiya from Nijgadh and fled the scene after the mishap. Placing the body of Lama on the road, locals brought vehicular movement to a halt. They were demanding punishment for the jeep driver and compensation for the victim’s family. — HNS

Cops destroy hooch

RAUTAHAT: In a bid to control the production and sale of hooch, a police team raided number of houses and shops belonging to Ramjanam Das, Nek Mahamad, Chhathu Shah and Bikau Das in Gaur on Friday. The team seized 500 litres of hooch and destroyed it, SP Jay Bahadur Chand, announcing the launch of a campaign to control brewing and sale of hooch. “Locals should help make the campaign successful,” Chand said. “All shops selling hooch in Gaur will be closed,” he added. — HNS

YCL cadre expelled

ITAHARI: The Young Communist League (YCL), affiliated to the CPN-Maoist, said on Saturday that it had expelled its Inaruwa president Narayan Yadav. Issuing a perss statement, Young Communist League Sunsari secretary Arjun Nepal said that Yadav had been expelled for acting against the Young Communist League’s policy. — HNS
