Oil, sugar seized

ITAHARI: A team from Revenue Investigation Unit, Itahari, on Tuesday seized a bulk of illegally imported sugar and cooking oil from many Sunsari VDCs. According to revenue investigation officer Chaitanyanath Bhattarai, the team seized 37 sacks of sugar and 20 tins of cooking oil from Sunsari’s Jalpapur, Ramnagar Bhutaha and Kaptangunj. Bhattarai said the goods were seized acting on a tip-off and would be auctioned off. — THT online

Lightning kills two

GAIGHAT: Two of a family were killed and two others injured when they were struck by lightning at Udaypur’s Rampur on Tuesday. Asha Kunwar, 35, and her three-year-old son Laxman were killed when the lightning struck them in Rampur, the police said. Asha’s two sons Dhan Bahadur, 12, and Hari Bahadur, 10, were injured in the mishap. The injured are undergoing treatment in BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, police said. A report from Bara said 30-year-old Om Prakash Yadav was injured when lightning struck in Bara’s Dahariya on Monday night. Yadav is undergoing treatment. — THT online

Man kills nephew

ITAHARI: A man killed his nephew here on Tuesday after he refused to go to school. Kumar Darji (32) of Janatabasti, Itahari, thrashed Susan Pariyar (12), who sustained serious head injuries, and died after a while, as nobody took him to a hospital for treatment. Susan had been living with his maternal uncle, after his father went abroad for employment. The police have arrested Kumar on the charge of killing his nephew. — THT online

Office vandalised

SYANGJA: A drunken man vandalised the office of Construction Entrepreneurs’ Organisation in Syangja on Tuesday. A resident of Putalibazaar municipality, Santa Bahadur Gurung vandalised the furniture and documents in the office under the influence of alcohol, police said. Gurung has been arrested. — THT online
