Kid killed in mishap

DHADING: A four-year-old child was killed in a mishap on Prithvi Highway at Banighat of Dhading on Saturday morning. Simran Karki, the daughter of Soniz Karki, was killed when a bus heading to Butwal from Kathmandu hit her at Charghare of Benighat, police said. Following the accident, irate locals obstructed transport movement on the highway for two hours. Traffic resumed after an agreement to provide compensation to the victim’s family, police added. In Hetauda, three-year-old Rejina Mainali was killed when a motorbike hit her on Friday night, police said. Motorcyclist Gopal Acharya has been arrested for investigation, police said. — HNS

One electrocuted

ITAHARI: Twenty-three-year-old Sanjay Rishidev of Ward No 1 of Ramgunj Balgachhiya VDC of Sunsari died while undergoing treatment on Saturday for injuries incurred while fixing electric wires of a switchboard in his house. Rishidev was rushed to the Kosi Zonal Hospital in Biratnagar but could not be saved, said sub-inspector at the Chimdi Police Post Rajesh Kumar Chaudhary. — HNS

Maoists grab land

ITAHARI: Maoist cadres have grabbed two bighas and five kathhas of land belonging to the Shankaracharya Guthi in Madhesa Village Development Committee of Sunsari district and started farming in it. They also distributed portions of the land to a few Musahar and Batar families for building houses. According to Maoist district leaders, the land was seized to “upgrade the living standards” of under-privileged communities. — HNS

Policeman missing

NUWAKOT: A policeman went missing in Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa district on Saturday. Constable Kiran Thapaliya, a resident of Bhimeshwor-1 of Dolakha who was deputed to Syafrubesi, has been missing in the river, DSP at Rasuwa District Police Office Sudip Raj Bhandari said. Thapaliya was swept away by the river when he plunged into the river to collect drift wood, eyewitnesses said. Search for Thapaliya is underway, police said. — HNS

13 injured in accident

NAWALPARASI: Thirteen persons were injured when a bus and a truck collided at Amarapuri of Nawalparasi district on the east-west highway on Saturday, the Kawasoti Area Police Office said. Police said the injured are undergoing treatment in Bharatpur. — HNS

MMT leader arrested

RAJBIRAJ: Police arrested a central member of the Madhesi Mukti Tigers (MMT) along with weapons on Friday night. A joint patrol team of Armed Police Force and civil police arrested Ram Chandra Mahato alias Krishna from Chanaura of Rajbiraj-2. A countrymade pistol and two bullets were seized from him, said Kamal Giri, SP of Rajbiraj-based Armed Police Force’s Border Security Office. — HNS

Mushroom poisoning

DHADING: Six members of a family fell sick after consuming wild mushroom in Nalang-9 of Dhading district on Friday night. Six members of a Shakya family — Nanu Maya (2), Pradip (7), Bhojmaya (11), Pampha, Putali Maya and Hemraj — fell sick after eating the mushroom collected from a nearby jungle. They returned home after getting treatment in Dhadingbesi on Saturday. — HNS

Property gutted

MAHOTTARI: Property worth Rs 200,000 was damaged when fire engulfed a house in Mahottari district on Friday night. The fire broke out in the house belonging to Jeet Bahadur Mandal of Jaleshwor Ward No 8 at 2 am, police said. Locals and policemen with the help of a fire engine from the Jaleshwor municipality doused the fire. — HNS

Traffic obstructed

ITAHARI: Locals of Dulari in Morang district on Saturday blocked the

east-west highway for 12 hours to protest the death of a youth who was attacked by an unknown gang four days ago. Krishna Limbu, 21, of Dulari VDC-9 succumbed to injuries in Siliguri while undergoing treatment. All eastbound vehicles remained off the road due to the blockade. Police said the locals lifted the blockade after police assured them of bringing the guilty to the book. — HNS

Looter arrested

TAULIHAWA: Police arrested a looter — Triyogi Chaudhari — who was involved in looting passengers here on Friday night. Chaudhari was arrested while planning to

loot passengers by placing timbers and stones at Pipari on Chandrauta-Krishnanagar road. Police said that six accomplices of Chaudhari managed to flee but they have been identified. Chaudhari was the leader of the group, police said. — HNS
