Republic Day plan

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress said on Saturday that it would observe May 28, the day of declaration of Nepal as a multiparty parliamentary democratic republic state, as the Republic Day. Issuing a press statement in the capital, the Nepali Congress appealed to all its activists and organisations affiliated to the party to celebrate the Republic Day by organising various programmes nationwide. —RSS

Reporter awarded

KATHMANDU: Reporter of the Annapurna Post Krishna Kisi was awarded Deego Sanchar Samman 2064 during a function organised by Deego Lalit Aawaz monthly in the capital on Saturday. Bijaya Chalise, Chief Editor of the Gorkhapatra daily, presented the award to the reporter. Kisi was honoured for covering issues pertaining to rural areas. — HNS

Death in Malaysia

DAMAK: Man Bahadur Tamang, a resident of Misabot-7, Sindhuli, died in Malaysia on Tuesday. Tamang, who was working for United Drivers in Mallaka city, died of swelling of the legs three days ago, Birendra Sharma, another worker at the company informed on Friday.

“Tamang was an insured worker, but the company is hesitating to pay the amount,” Sharma said. Stating that there was difficulty in sending Tamang’s body home, Sharma pleaded with the journalists to help in the process. — HNS

Child drowns

NUWAKOT: Thirteen-year-old Vivek Kumal, son of Gyan Bahadur Kumal, of Thulogaon in Bidur, drowned on Saturday. Vivek was swimming in the Tadi river, where he had gone with his parents for Sansari Pooja, Inspector Dilip Kumar Giri said. — HNS

Man dies of injuries

BARA: Jagadish Acharya, who was shot by Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha cadres on Thursday night, died in Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon. Acharya died while he was undergoing treatment in TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, Bar Association Unit President at Bara District Court, Birendra Chaudhary said. — HNS
