Lightning kills three
NUWAKOT: Ten-year-old Sujan Khadka and forty-five-year-old Maili Gurung of Ganeshthan VDC-8 died after lightning struck them on Thursday evening in Nuwakot district. “Khadka’s sister Shushila and an elderly woman were injured in the mishap,” inspector at District Police Office, Dilip Giri, said. In Hetauda, Sukmaya Pakhrin of Gairibhanjyang in Phaparbari VDC-3 died after she too was struck by lightning. “Her house was slightly damaged in the incident,” said a police official at Phaparbari Area Police Office. — HNS
Youth electrocuted
RUPANDEHI: Twenty-five-year-old Shanti GC of Kerwani VDC-8 in Rupandehi district suffered a major electric shock on Wednesday evening when she tried to switch off the pump meant for drawing water from the ground source in her house. She was rushed to Lumbini Hospital but died en route, said police. — HNS
VDC secy abducted
CHANDRANIGAHAPUR: An unidentified group abducted Bishwonath Prasad Shaha, Jaya Nagar VDC secretary of Rautahat, on Wednesday night. According to Area Police Office at Garuda, a group of seven persons abducted Shaha from his residence in Dipahi VDC. “The group also detonated explosives when villagers tried to protest their act,” a family source said. Maoist cadre shot at
SIRAHA: Maoist cadre, Buju Paswan, got injured when an unidentified gang shot at him here on Wednesday evening. According to SP of APF Border Security office in Siraha, Harishchandra Adhikari, Paswan was attacked by the gang at Dumari-5. “The incident took place while he was on his way to home from Ramnagar Mirchaiya. He had sustained bullet injury in his hand and was undergoing treatment at the Sub Health Post in Kalyanpur,” Adhikari said. According to district president of the YCL, Jagat Yadav, the gang seized Paswan’s motorbike. — HNS
Property gutted
RAJBIRAJ: Thirty-two houses of 13 families were destroyed by fire that broke out on Wednesday night. As per the information, property worth Rs 4 million was damaged and 16 domestic animals were killed in the fire. According to area police office at Kanchanpur, the fire spread from the house of Chhutharu Ram’s house in Rajbiraj-7 at 12:30 am. Fire engine from Sunsari’s Inaruwa, police and locals controlled the fire after five hours. —HNS
