UN team in Bhojpur

BHOJPUR: A team of the United Nations arrived here on Friday to take stock of the post-constituent assembly poll scenario in the district. The two-member team, which arrived from Biratnagar, will hold meeting with the district-based political parties, security personnel, journalists and election officials to learn about the situation after the completion of the polls. The team comprising Bijay Kuinkel and Tika Adhikari will stay here for two days. — HNS

One abducted

SIRAHA: Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha led by the Jayakrishna Goit abducted one Ramesh Karki of Sisbani - 2 in Gamhariya, for allegedly defying the ‘Vacate Tarai’ call here on Thursday night. “We abducted Karki because he was spying against the party and due to his involvement in buying and selling of seized land and for also defying the ‘Vacate Tarai’ call,” district secretary of the Morcha, Biplav, said. “Armed cadres led by the military commander of Area No 1, Nikas, abducted Karki,” he said. SP Mingmar Lama confirmed the abduction and has said that efforts are on to search Karki. — HNS

Murder suspects held

TAULIHAWA: Four persons, including a woman, were held on Friday on the charge of group murder of a family at Dhankauli-9 in Chetaradeha. SP at the district police office, Milan Basnet, said Fauzdar Kebat, Dhaniram Kewat, Sakuni Kewat of Niglihawa VDC-8 and Chhangur

Kewat of Dhankauli VDC-8 were arrested. It is supected that they killed all the six members of a family to take revenge last Friday, Basnet added. — HNS

One killed in mishap

SARLAHI: Twenty two-year-old Baliram Chaudhary of Haripur VDC-1died when a tractor, heading from the district headquarters Malangwa to Nawalpur, hit him at Dhute bazaar, Haripur VDC on Thursday night. Nineteen-year-old Rohit Chaudhary got seriously injured in the same incident. — HNS

Hail destroys crops

TANAHUN: A hailstorm during the first week of Baisakh month destroyed 40 per cent of vegetable crops in Tanahun district. “Duleygaunda, Khairenitar, Anbukhaireni and Kyamin VDCs have been most affected,” cells planning officer of District Agriculture Development, Vasudev Kafle, said, adding: “The details of the damage caused by the hailstorm would be available by April 27. “ — HNS

Aid for conflict victims

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Council of Ministers, Political Committee, held on Friday decided to provide Rs 100,000 relief to each family of those killed in the conflict and also Rs 25,000 to the widow in lump sum. The meeting also decided to provide scholarship to three children of each family of conflict victim in lump sum. — RSS

NC tops PR count

BAGLUNG: The Nepali Congress bagged the most votes in Baglung under PR system even though the party was defeated in two out of three constituencies under direct polls. The NC bagged 35,153 votes under PR system while Maoists polled 30,953 votes. Maoists had lost all three seats under direct polls. Rastriya Janamorcha, which won one seat in direct polls, stood third in PR system with 23,612 votes and the UML, which won Constituency No 1 in the FPTP system, stood fourth with 23,422 votes. — HNS

Sharma’s plea

KATHMANDU: Maoist leader Dinanath Sharma on Friday stressed on the need to continue the culture of cooperation and consensus even in the coming days to draft inclusive and scientific constitution as per the people’s mandate. “Political parties should not back off from the responsibility as people have given them the mandate to formulate the best constitution,” he said at a discussion programme organised by SAFMA Nepal Chapter. — RSS

Blasts in Bara

KALAIYA: An unidentified gang denoted bombs at Ward No 5 and 12 in Kalaiya of Bara on Thursday night. Police said the gang detonated one bomb targeting CPN-UML office and another at the house of Mahamad Ilias Ansari at Kalaiya. —RSS
