SJTMM blames SPA

BARA: The Bara chapter of Samyukta Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (SJTMM) on Saturday urged people of Tarai not to take part in the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls. SJTMM Bara in-charge Jitendra Tiwari, issuing a statement, said that the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) is going to hold the polls ignoring the freedom of Tarai. SJTMM also urged the Tarai people not to attend the SPA mass meeting scheduled on January 30 in Birgunj. — HNS

Timber seized

PARASI: The District Forest Office Nawalparasi has seized sal timber worth Rs 50,000 from people in Sunawal forest of Nawalparasi district on Friday. A team of Ilaka Forest Office employees seized the timber from people who were cutting sal timber illegally at Jyamire forest. Locals have warned that they will not protect the forest now. “Action will be taken against them for violation of the provision under the Forest Act as

they have cut the trees without permission from the forest office, even though it was a community forest,” said district forest officer Laxman Gautam. —RSS

FM service starts

TEHRATHUM: Menchhyam FM 102.6 went on air in Terathum district on Friday after a successful test broadcast, which had started from January 15. Inaugurating the FM, MP Bijaya Subba urged the radio to provide factual information. At the programme, MP Kumar Fudong, Furba Sherpa and Tanka Ambuhang said that the radio should produce its own programmes and broadcast as per the demand of the time. 102.6 has 100 watt capacity. 102. 6 can be heard in all the VDCs of Terathum district as well as Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Panchthar and Taplejung districts, the management committee said. — RSS

Guardians’ demand

KATHMANDU: The guardians of the students doing MBBS in foreign countries, especially in China, demanded the sector concerned to arrange internships in Nepal for Nepali students doing MBBS in foreign countries, in a press meet organised on Saturday. The guardians expressed concern over the notice of the Nepal Medical Council and the Health Ministry’s decision made in July on cancelling the provision of pre-internship to such students in the country. World Customs Day

BHADRAPUR: The Mechi Custom Office on Saturday honoured the first three Bangladesi customs agents who had entered Nepal from the eastern border of Nepal, Kakadbhitta on the occasion of the World Customs Day. In the programme, chairman of the Mechi Custom Office Mohan Niraula was declared the best customs agent. The Office said employees Mahendra Shrestha, Modhan Bidhathoki and peon Jay Kumar Rai were declared the best employees. — RSS
