Two hurt in gang fight

KATHMANDU: Two students were injured when a gang fight ensued between two students’ group of the KNK College, New Baneshwor, on Friday evening, police said on Saturday. Nagendra Limbu of Morang and Rijan Rai of Sunsari, who sustained knife injuries in their chests, are undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu Medical College. — HNS

Leftist leader feted

KATHMANDU: A veteran fighter of democracy and leftist movement of Dang district Shree Mani Acharya was felicitated here on Saturday. CPN-UML Dang-Kathmandu Liaison Committee felicitated Acharya who has been undergoing cancer treatment at Manmohan Hospital for the last four months. On the occasion, CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said there are lots of things to be learnt from democracy fighter Acharya. — RSS

Traffic resumes

JHALARI: Transport services that remained halted in the far western region for the past three days resumed on Saturday. The closure was imposed by transport entrepreneurs, demanding easy supply of petroleum products. The strike was called off following an agreement reached between the transport entrepreneurs, Nepal Oil Corporation-Dhangadi Depot and the local administration to regulate the supply. — RSS

Villagers’ plea

BIRATNAGAR: Villagers in rural areas of Morang district have demanded that the government create working environment for VDC secretaries by making security arrangements. Those rural people in a public hearing programme organised in the district development committee office for the second time on Friday said that they have been facing difficulties as VDC secretaries are staying off VDCs. Morang chief district officer Madhav Prasad Regmi said urged political parties, civil society and people to help maintain peace. — RSS

Morang child bench

BIRATNAGAR: In a bid to settle cases regarding the charges levelled on child in a closed bench, child bench has been practiced in Morang district following the legal provision. There is the legal provision that if a child is found guilty, he should be kept in the child reform house instead of prison. The Morang Court has initiated the child bench, clearing a case of a boy, 14, convicted of having an incestuous relation to a girl in the district. — RSS

Pokharel’s stand

MAHOTTARI: Minister for Health and Population Giriraj Mani Pokharel said political seven political parties are busy on giving outlet to the current political impasse. A fresh date for the constituents assembly election would be fixed on the basis of consensus among seven party alliance, Pokharel said. One held with arms

BARA: Police arrested a person along with arms from Bara on Friday night. Jitendra Mahato Koiri, 22, of Chorni-7 was arrested along with a pistol and one bullet, inspector at the Simara Area Police Office Bishnu Hari Koirala said. He said interrogation has revealed that Koiri’s gang had killed Mumtaz Ansari of Jeetpur-3 in Bara and Sahadev Chaulagain of Phattepur-9 by a few days ago. Koiri’s gang is also involved in extortion from industrialists and individuals of Jeetpur and Parwanipur, Koirala added. — HNS

LAMJUNG: Central committee of the Press Chautari Nepal provided Rs 5,000 assistance to Lamjung-based journalist Navinraj Kuikel on Saturday. Chairman of Lamjung chapter of the Press Chautari Nepal Krishna Prasad Adhikari handed over the amount to Kuikel. Kuikel’s right leg was broken in a motorbike accident at Manohari of Tanahu six months ago. Meanwhile, the Lamjung chapter has collected Rs 10,000 assistance for the family of Birendra Shah. — HNS

Donation sought

SARLAHI: Ashadevi Danuwar, 22, from Bijalpura VDC-2 of Mahottari district on Saturday sought donation for a Mount Everest expedition. Speaking in the second annual meeting of Danuwar Jagaran Samiti (DJS) of Sarlahi on Saturday, Danuwar said 12 women from Newar, Sherpa and Danuwar communities are preparing for the First Inclusive Women Sagarmatha Expedition Team-2064. She said the expedition would begin from the third week of Chaitra. Expressing her joy for being selected in the team from Tarai, she said every climber would have to pay a sum of Rs 7-8 lakh for the expedition. — HNS

Nawalparasi bandh

NAWALPARASI: Parasi bazaar remained closed on Saturday due to the bandh called by Yuba Forum, a sister organisation of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum. The Forum obstructed traffic at Harakatta on the Mahendra Highway for some time, but there were no such serious incidents in the bandh, SP Sharad Chand said. The forum had called the bandh for two days beginning on Friday in protest against the abduction of their valley in-charge and Rupandehi secretary by YCL cadres. — HNS
