One held in Siraha

SIRAHA: Police, on the charge of his involvement in the killing of Nepali Congress mahasamati member Bechan Yadav, arrested a person on Saturday. Jagadish Shah, a resident of Chharapatti of Sonmati Majhaura of Siraha, was arrested from his house, the Lahan Area Police Office said. Yadav was killed last Sunday night. —HNS

Four houses looted

KAPILVASTU: An armed gang of dacoits looted property and cash worth over Rs 7 lakh from four houses at Jhandagaun of Kopawa VDC-7 on Friday night. The gang looted Rs 2 lakh, 22 tolas of gold, four mobile sets, a digital camera and computers from the houses of Shashi Sapkota, Mohan Gyawali, Dillaram Ghimire and Bishal Sapkota, SP at the Kapilvastu District Police Office, Shashi Hajur Silwal, said. The dacoits ran away after the locals began attacking them, Bishal Sapkota, a victim, said. — HNS

Book released

POKHARA: Parliamentarian Prakash Bahadur Gurung on Saturday released a book on the occasion of the birth anniversary of poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota at Ghachok of Kaski district. The book entitled Srijana was published by Srijana Literary Centre, Ghachok. Gurung said literary creations written with focus on the people and the state live forever. As thoughts of littérateurs bring great changes, creative programmes should be organised in rural areas also, he said. The book is a collection of 74 creations of various genres including poetry and play. — RSS

Writers honoured

KAVRE: Two writers were honoured at Janagal of Kavre on Friday at a programme organised to mark the the Laxmi Jayanti — the 99th birth anniversary of poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota. At the programme organised by the Sayapatri Foundation Nepal, litterateur Mohan Duwal and critic Dr Krishna Prasad Bhattarai were honoured with the Sayapatri National Honour-2064 BS. Chairman of the Nepal Literary Journalists’ Association Rochak Ghimire presented them with commendation letters. — RSS
